ooc; this might be terrible. it's been a while since i've written anything, and g o t h v a e n's been pretty... non-responsive lately. so i'm determined to write something, even if it's horrible. anyone's welcome to join. -hinthint-
It was around midnight. A full moon hung in the sky, looking ethereal against the blue-black of the sky around it. It shed light all over the ground, yet in the trails snaking their way through the forest were barely lit; the massive amounts of trees surrounding the thin trails spread dozens of long, willowy branches out to catch and snare the moonlight. It was unusually cold for July; a small, svelte girl shivered and pulled her sweatshirt tighter around her. The sweatshirt, at first glance, looked to be almost useless--the sleeves were cut short, yet it was zippered as high as it could go. Long striped armwarmers covered the exposed fur of her arms. She was wearing jeans and dark crimson boots, but she still trembled under the relentless cold. Her eyes, glowing butterscotch under the small shafts of moonlight, scanned the trail before her nervously, frantically searching for something, anything that could explain the growling noise she'd just heard. She inwardly cursed herself for watching that stupid movie about the cannibal Gelert, but everyone had assured her it wouldn't be that scary... Her hair all but blended into the dark background, and the fur visible on her face stood out clearly in the pitch-black night. She shut her eyes once, breathing deeply, before opening them again and taking a hesitant step down the path. What way was she going? "Hello?" she called out tentatively, both hoping and dreading a response. "Is anyone there?"

His heart was beating loudly in his head, much louder then the music blaring in his ears in fact. Late nights runs were so routine at this point, he was surprised that his body was reaching it's limit. Zuri Baker, having no time to work out during his cramped day time schedule forced himself to run in the dead of night. If he was going to suffer from insomnia, he may as well get fit before the sleeping pills kicked in. He let out a cry of defeat as he felt himself wear out, quite resentful to that fact that he could barely do the entire route his darling baby sister had claimed to complete in a mere ten minutes.
Finally out of breath he stopped and leaned against a large oak tree, shifting all his weight on to the tree to give his leg muscles a much needed break. He pushed back the hood on his off-black sweat shirt, very warm despite the coolness of the evening. Little beads of sweat rolled off his dark brown hair, glistening in the moonlight. Taking the headphones he could have sworn he heard someone speak, not to far off. His bright green eyes squinted, unable to make out very much that was too far away from the dirt path. The trees deeper in the forest didn't allow too much light the filter through. Not that moonlight was very reliable though really.
ooc| Gahh. There you go. Hope ya don't mind.

Alice took another hesitant step forward. If only Faye were here--her upbeat sister somehow always managed to make things seem so much funnier, not at all scary. She could've sworn that she heard someone... panting, was it? She stepped forward again, only to realize that there actually was something there. "Oh!" she cried out softly, immediately stepping back once. Her eyes were fixed on the stranger before her.
ooc; notatall, notatall! and just a question--is he a neopet? or just a regular guy.? and sorry if this is a little short.

ooc| He's full human. I co-exist happily with furry RPers though. He's on Neo. Kougra.
bic|| Zuri's eyes continued to squint tightly, causing his forehead to crease despite his youth, until the girl creeped in to his line of sight. Then his eyes popped back to their usual roundness, and his forehead smoothed, scarlet creeping on the apple of his cheeks. Sweaty and dishevled, he hadn't been expecting to come across anyone, let alone a girl. "Uh, Hi!" he spilled out despite his laboured breathing.
He looked younger then he was, Zuri Baker. He had a sort of stretched out look to him, long limbs that pushed him over the six feet mark. Tanned skin that couldn't have come from being a purly city dweller, that suggested despite his lack of accent, he could have a splash of south american in him.

She almost laughed at his embarrassment, but thought better of it. "Glad to see I'm not the only one out here," she confessed softly. "What are you out here for, anyway?" she asked curiously, looking him over. He wasn't furred, something rather strange around the city, but he was tan, and well over a foot taller than her.
ooc; rah, the shortness continues. ><

Reaching in to his Hoodie's kangaroo pouch he flicked off the music player, having it still playing when he stopped to rest. Giving her a quizzical look, he glanced down at his sweat covered attire. "Working out." he said simply, yet not unpleasantly. "Better question would be why YOU are out here Miss. It's past midnight. And were in.. woods."
She looked younger then him, and having a sibling around her age, he couldn't imagine what would possess her to wander the forest in the middle of the night. Maybe she had like, mase or her or something. He wouldn't put it above girls these days.
ooc| No worries. Mine are on the shorter side as well. Just works, i dunno.

"Just walking," she replied a little sheepishly. "But I got lost, I guess. And it doesn't really help that I was kind of watching horror movies before I came?" She looked him over once, not at all judgingly. "Then you come along and all I hear is someone running; what was I supposed to think?" She thought of something and asked again, "What makes you think I'm younger than you?" She could tell, by the way he'd said 'Miss'.

He smiled apologetically, effecting his features the same as the squint had. "Sorry I scared you, I've never met someone out here. It's pretty deserted. Well, not pretty, it is. But that being said i can promise no ski mask weraing, kinife weilding Jason is out here. Well, not that I've seen." He spoke matter of factly, confidently as well. He popped up an elbow and put it up against the large tree. "Well, you ARE younger then me, I'm guessing. I'm anicent. Can't you tell?"

"Not really," she replied with a little laugh. "I'm a terrible judge of age. And that's very assuring. I guess. How old are you, anyway?" She wouldn't've guessed more than her own age, but then again, that was just how terrible her judgement was. For all she knew, he could be twenty two. "But chances are I probably am younger than you."
ooc; the 'that's very assuring' is about the jason thing. but i think i worded that badly.

"The ripe old age of twenty two. I look more like a semi-starved sixteen year old but...yeah." he mused, rolling it off lightly. "Not a testamanet to your judgment if you aimed a little lower in guessing my age." Emerlad eyes wandered away from the girl ot the surrounding woods, drak shadows so sinister loking they might have come out a King novel. "Assuring yeah, but it's probably not a good idea. No Jason's here but god knows what else."

"Very true," she replied fairly. "And there's news going around about some guy going off killing women, but whatever." Her tone was light and cheerful, wildly inappropriate for the topic, but that's just how she was. "Ah, twenty-two? I would've pegged you at about seventeen. That's pretty off." She laughed a little, noticing that his eyes looked almost fluorescent despite the lack of light.

He could only laugh at her upbeat mannerisms, heaving a relaxed sigh. "How old are YOU by the way?" he asked brightly, turning the question on her. Obviosuly old enough to be walking in the middle of the forest without a parent watching obsessively." She could be sneaking out, or lying about her location he thought, and knew this was likely.
ooc} Shorrtt.

"Me? Oh, I'm seventeen. Yes, old enough without having parents obsess over me. Then again, they're not really all that aware that I'm out here anyway..." She turned to look at him, doe-eyed innocence written across her features. "Apparently, I'm a very good liar. Either that, or they just sleep very heavily." She looked around. "When it's not this dark, I love walking around here. Gives me somewhere to think."

"Ahhh. Seventeen." he breathed, reminiscent. Not that those years were remotely pleasurable for him. "Sneaking out eh? Tsk. Can't blame you though. It is nice out here. Could never run like this downtown, without getting mugged or something. Crack dens don't treat joggers too favorably, ya know?" He rolled his eyes at this. "Or are you one of those suburban brats?" There was no malice in the comment, simply teasing.

"Hardly a brat," she replied in the same tone, "I live in the city. And I get what you mean. Around the school year, I come running through here every night." She was on the track team, but wasn't sure how much she wanted to tell this guy yet. "And I probably seem ridiculously silly, right? This little girl getting lost in the woods, scared?" Her tone was still light, but self-mocking; Alice didn't do well near people older than her, thoroughly convinced that they thought her to be a little girl.
